about

"spazio onirico collettivo" (literally "collective oneiric space") is the specific and unique dimension that emerges from the practice of improvisation. It is the place in which each musician’s creative flows enter into dialogue, resulting in a sound which is both a personal creation and a shared effort.

While recording their second album for Splasc(H) Records, the young members of Syntax Quartet (with the featuring of Achille Succi) committed to the goal of building and staying in this space. Each track presents a different way of approaching improvisation: at times, the quartet’s deep connection with the jazz tradition is evident (for example in the rendition of Monk’s standard "manganése / we see"), while at times unconventional structures and timbrical explorations prevail. In both situations, the music still revolves around extemporaneous creation and interplay, and the original compositions of the quartet reflect this perspective.
